Cookbook author, restaurateur and award-winning media maven, Jan D’Atri has a passion for cooking that is rivaled only by her love for family. Her first cookbook, Momma & Me & You, a collaboration with her mother Livia D’Atri featuring original recipes passed down through generations, is infused with delightful tales and anecdotes that chronicle her family’s history. But while food has always been her first love, Jan’s compelling career started on another path.
This fun-loving duo’s first book, Momma & Me & You was a sell out and continuing runaway success on QVC. The two appear together on television and radio, sharing simple yet scrumptious dishes and heart-warming heritage stories.
Honored with the distinction of appearing continuously on television longer than any other female in the Valley, Jan began her television career in 1976 in Reno, Nevada as an anchor for KTVN-TV Channel 2 (CBS). In 1978, she became the first PM Magazine co-host in a small market, capturing a 48 share in its first year and making it the highest rated PM Magazine in the country. In 1979 Jan arrived at KTVK-TV Channel 3 in Phoenix, Arizona to again co-host another evening magazine program and she remained at KTVK for the next 23 years.
Throughout her successful 30-year television career, Jan has hosted and produced seven television shows. She has received three Rocky Mountain Emmy Awards, the national Gabriel Award and Chicago International Film Festival honors for producing, writing and hosting. Her tenure at KTVK-TV in Phoenix eventually led to her own one-hour syndicated television show, Southwest Style, which aired in 24 cities across eight states.
However, being born into a food-loving family with a fondness for Italian cuisine; her mother immigrated to America from Italy and opened a restaurant in Lake Tahoe; Jan had an undeniable connection to gourmet fare which laid the foundation for her to explore her entrepreneurial spirit.
Armed with her mother’s treasured family recipes from the menu of her Lake Tahoe restaurant, in 1990, Jan opened D’Atri Gourmet Goods in Phoenix where she manufactured and distributed a gourmet line of Italian sausages and biscotti. Jan has since created an upscale brand of Italian cookies which are currently sold regularly on QVC under her Momma & Me label.
In 2001, Jan added restaurateur to her list of accomplishments when she opened D’Atri’s Cinema Paradiso in Scottsdale, a quaint and casual 14-table eatery that was named one of Arizona’s Top 100 Restaurants. Shortly thereafter, Jan opened her second restaurant, D’Atri’s at The Scottsdale Airport, which incorporated fine dining and was quickly noted for its elegant Tuscan atmosphere, magnificent view of the runway and “Best of Phoenix” homemade Panini sandwiches.
In 2006, Jan and Livia published their first cookbook, Momma & Me & You, which sold out in its first airing recently on QVC, and in 2007 Jan partnered with Dacor, manufacturer of luxury kitchen appliances, to help bring a bit of family fun to the kitchen. By hosting a variety of cooking demonstrations, book signings and other culinary events, Jan will show consumers how to experience the sizzle of cooking through their own personal and positive experiences in the kitchen.
Jan currently co-hosts and creates cooking and lifestyle segments for KPNX-TV 12 (NBC) in Phoenix. She produces and hosts The Jan D’Atri Show weekly on KFYI Radio (Clear Channel). Jan also writes a weekly syndicated home and lifestyle column for the Arizona Republic and a cooking column for the Scottsdale Times, and is currently working on her second cookbook. Jan lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband John and 24 farm animals.
