Overpriced inneffective & a waste of money
I just removed a brand new - 20 year old Dacor downdraft vent system as I was remodeling my kitchen. I purchased this unit new 20 years ago when I built this house. It functioned for a couple of years meaning that the vent would raise and the fan would turn on but after a couple of years it quit working all together.
During the short time that it did "function" it was EXTREMELY LOUD even on the lowest setting and created no air movement to remove cooking smells & smoke even on the highest setting. A total waste of a lot of money.
Dacor gas cooktop on the other hand has preformed very well for 20 years. It is a great unit, easy to clean and looks great. very satisfied with the cooktop.

Great unspoken features!
I have always enjoyed cooking steak... and eating it too!
We have used this range hood now for a couple of months, and I absolutely love it. My spousal unit feels much of the same way as many of the other reviewers. I on the other hand have found a benefit that others may be ignoring. In the past, anytime a slab of meat hit the pan, an immediate barrage of dietary suggestions and comments followed. Rapid fire, non-stop suggestions for eating tofu, stir fry vegetables, etc... ARGH! I could not get it to stop! Then, one day our old ventilation system found its end and I was forced to find a substitute. We found this Dacor unit. I installed it, and gave its first whirl with a couple of T-bone's. I found the din of the fan at low to be sufficiently loud, and yet not uncomfortable. The exhaust pull was excellent. Lo, then above the din, strained dietary consultation began fighting its way through. Quickly, I moved the setting to medium. The fan responded, more pull, more din... and an image of my spousal unit across from me; her mouth moving, but nothing audible could be heard above the protective layer my new found kitchen buddy was providing. The spousal unit was becoming upset. Her voice raised to maximum output and her mouth was opening... and at that moment, my finger found its way to the maximum setting on the Dacor downdraft ventilation fan. An amazing roar came to life, the din of the fan coupled with the power of the air movement simply sucked the dietary suggestions from the spousal unit and pulled them to the great outdoors. Hands were raised from across my steaks, what appeared to be ranting (even raving!) went unacknowledged as the Dacor protected me.
I had been putting up with this for far too long. Had I known that a product such as this had existed and could have made my time in the kitchen more enjoyable, I would have made this purchase years before. To the steak loving man that invented this product, i take my hat off and tip one back in your honor!

Very good looking design. Relatively quiet for a 600 cfm fan, when using the inline fan. Maybe we're lucky, but we've had it 12 years, with I believe no maintenance.
The problem is that the intake is so low it is basically useless. The top of the intake is less than 7" above the counter; most pans, even a skillet, is about that high when on a stove. We pretty much need to use the back burners for anything that we want to vent. Also means that we cannot have a back burner on simmer when the fan is on, the fan keeps blowing out (sucking out?) the flame.
Dacor, and other companies, make models with a much higher rise. Pick one of those instead.

This product is worthless
This was already in the house we bought. The downdraft is so strong, it blows out the burners. We have an open kitchen/family room and it is so noisy, I cannot use it if we have family or company in the rooms.
I guess we will have to replace it with a traditional hood. VERY DISAPPOINTED in this product. The company should offer a workable replacement.

This product is not good
We will replace this product with an overhead vent hood. It is a terrible product and should be removed from the market. I am an Engineer and see these products that look good but don't work. This is definitely one of those.

A great conversation piece but.....
When I first got this downdraft (to match my stove - which I absolutely love) it was great. But, shortly after (about 2 yrs) the downdraft stopped working. All this time I have gone without a kitchen fan. I guess from reading the other reviews that this unit has a lot of 'kinks.'

Very noisy. Looking for a replacement.
I have been using this vent for past 11 years. It matches with my other Dacor appliances, works good but its extremely noisy. The entire family is tired of its loudness. Requires maintenance. We are looking for a replacement.

I do not recommend purchasing this.
The expensive control board burned up so it has to be replaced. it is extremely noisy and very expensive although nice looking. I enjoy the stovetop it matches but the vent is not worth the money. it is also easy to drop the vent down the shaft when cleaning. You cannot retrieve it without a repair man.
